"Prima" is the Dutch word for Perfect. Here at Prima we believe our Aussies the perfect breed for our family. Aussies are beautiful, loyal, fun loving, protective, friendly, intelligent, agile, trainable, and versatile. Thus, the name Prima was born.
Prima is a small family of Australian Shepherds located in Central Virginia. Our dogs are our "kids" and have full run of the house. From one room to the next you will notice toys, chewies, dog beds, and the occasional hairball floating around. The dogs enjoy their days lounging, playing, and sleeping. "Spoiled rotten," many say. However, we do work the dogs each day. Each dog has their individual training sessions in which new commands are learned, old commands rehashed, and good quality time well spent together.
Happiness and over all well-being are number one priority. No dog will go hungry, without medical care, nor without a toy or two. Our Veterinarian routinely checks our dogs. Eyes and hips are tested. Each dog is up to date on all vaccines as well as kept on monthly heartworm medication. All the dogs are fed premium food, groomed weekly, and enjoy some sort of physical and mental activity. Whether it be competing in the breed ring or visiting the local hospital, all our dogs have a job to do.
Our mission here at Prima is to promote the Australian Shepherd. We want to boast about their ability, beauty, versatility, and our love and pride for this magnificent breed.
